I believe that cartoon characters are like actors, and the cartoonist is at the same time actor and director. Most cartooning books prepare some basic expressions, others prepare a expression sheet, but not many decide to make a deep study on a particular expression. Exaggerating, yes. Extreme, could be. But the cartoon faces need to transmit feelings, thoughts, personality. Of course, faces need to be combined with body language. You can complement the book with the chapter "What are your characters saying?" of Mitch Byrd's "notes to draw from Vol. 1" from Blue Line Pro.
Fun book, well laid out and easy to follow. This was the second copy I bought so my daughter could use it.

Lots of good content. Really focused on expression, and story building through posture, and facial expression.

Character drives story, and story drives sales. Facial expressions drive character and story. This book is a gem: concise but thorough, it works both as a primer for the newb, and also as a great reference or review for the pro.
