This madden is definitely above the rest. The motion, tackling and computer a.i. are off the charts good. Pat White is fun to play with as well as the recent update with the dog killing vick. Some things I have personally not liked are these: On online franchise mode, you can't edit players from say lolb to a de or such. Also, there is no salary cap from what I can see and you can't practice with your team or even export the roster. The ratings on some players that I feel are decent in the league to average are set at like a 60 overall. My biggest hate of the game comes from Microsoft/Madden in which you can PURCHASE cheats and things like that to make your players better...Talk about a scam. All in all though, I'm glad that the online franchise mode is back, rookie ratings aren't overly high, and the game in my opinion has taken a step forward...but still has a ways to go. I still love the madden franchises though and will continue to purchase them.Read full review
I have already seriously considered pawning this game and getting an earlier version. The presentation is unbelievable, however, I had to turn off the commentary after 2 days due to repitition. Custom soundtracks are a lie, you can only reorder the in-game tracks which are better than ever, but still not great. You can't save and quit in the middle of a game. Big plays are worse than ever no one can catch up to one another even when they have better rated speed. Running the ball is almost as hard as passing the ball on anything other than a crossing route. The controls have been reworked and are not only hard to adjust to, but the confuguration is unchangable. I bought this game because I wanted the new rosters, but I won't buy a game before I have played it again. They have removed the "gameplan"aspect and training camp, which in my opinion were 2 of the finer points of this franchise. There is so much wrong with this game I can scarcely remember all of it. The instant replay feature is shorter than ever, and unsavable. On several occasions the football has passed through a defenders hand or head for a completion. This game does not compare to the 08 madden. Coaching options are minimal, subs must be done in game and on the clock. They didn't change the "incomplete pass instead of a sack or a fumble or grounding" aspect which is terrible. I have had opposing QB's throw away when I clearly had a sack. They changed too many things at once and not the bad things they kept the worst features and glitches and got rid of the best ones. I will pawn this edition and buy last years or 2008. I saw very little improvement in actual gameplay. The presentation is better, but that accounts for a very small percentage of the game. the menu music has to be muted because only a handful of tracks are any good. This game is a frightful disappointment and not worth the amount of money I paid. I expect more from the most popular franchise. The inaccurate officiating has caused me to quit more games than I have finished, if I stop the ball carrier a yard short of the first down marker and he is awarded the first down anyway I will restart the game on principle alone. As usual play challenges are useless and difficulty settings only dumb down your players i.e. DB's dropping interceptions and opposing D-linemen intercepting tipped passes. The gamers QB invariably gets sacked instead of throwing an incompletion at the last second unlike the CPU QB. This edition is for the most part a huge step in the wrong direction. This game is nothing like it's predecessors and doesn't have the EA sports feel. In writing this review, I have more or less talked my self into pawning this game, the new 09 rosters are hardly worth hearing the same menu tracks over and over or listening to cris colinsworth for an hour at a time. My ears have no where to hide. If this is what Madden has to offer I think I might shop around for a better NFL video game. Don't buy this game if you like Madden there will be no end to your complaining and no onw will listen, trust me. Play an older version for another year and rent Madden 11 before you buy it just in case. I plan to get Madden 08 since they have yet to improve on it. Playability and gameplay is far superior even on the original XBOX version, if all they can offer is better graphics and presentation, I will go with the better game play at least I won't pull my hair out after playing for an hour. This game was all hype.Read full review
For Madden 10, Ea Sports decided to make it more realistic for the NFL fan. The new features are fight for the fumble, better graphics, larger range of stats, Presentation, gang tackling, how to handle injuries, and co op online. However some features have been toned down. Superstar mode is very basic. All you pretty much do now is play the games. You can't practice to increase depth chart spot, no movie deals, etc. Franchise mode still lacks depth. In my opinion, I would like to see better create a stadium, be able to hire QB coaches etc, be able to fire coach during the year, and just make the role of the GM / Owner more important. I would also like to see the Owner Mode back with setting ticket prices(be able to set season and game tickets). Well back to what's in the game. Free Agency is better but still needs improvement. The draft and scouting took a step back this year. The ratings in Madden aren't good and some should be fixed(roster update). The main thing I do not like about this version is you have to buy stuff online(PS3 network or Xbox live). Just more cost. I think it's just an average Madden. Graphics - 9/10 need to make it better in snow and rain Presentation - 8/10 better but halftime show you can't skip Modes(franchise / superstar) - 3.5/10 AI - 5/10 Overall - 6.5/10Read full review
Love the changes they made to this game. The fact that the first time you hit someone they don't just fall down and be tackled is GREAT!! Also love to play defensive line and actually fight you way to the quarterback/halfback is a lot of fun using the sticks!! I mainly play franchise mode and love what they did with the coaching staff and how they can influence your team. BEST football game ever. Now, is there room for improvement. I would say yes but not much. I think they could do some of the things I saw in the demo for NFL Head Coach. I'm gonna buy that game to get that full experience which is my favorite part of the game. Well that AND actually playing out all my choices on the field. (Which you cannot do in NFL Head Coach) Keep up the good work guys over at EA Sports. What a homage to such a wonderful ex NFL Coach and announcer! He wanted people to understand the game better is why is started doing Madden Football way back when and I'm here to tell you it has changed the way I watch games now and feel it has taught me so much about the game.Read full review
The game is fair, however, is geared more toward young boys and teenagers. This game isn't near as good as the older PC versions that gave you much better control and MUCH better graphics even if you had a Mid-Range computer. EA Sports misses the boat again in my opinion by delivering only a fair game targeted specifically to young arcade style gamers and leaving out the PC crowd and older, more sophisticated, players. I truly feel EA, the company, has been delivering sub par releases for the past few years and they don't impress me at all. Perhaps the lack of competition is one of the reasons? Don't buy this game new...wait until someone gets bored, which they will, and sells it for a reduced price. I believe the game should have been priced at the $29.99 range since it's mediocre at best. It's definitely NOT worth $59.99....Not even close!Read full review
