The Singing Bowl Sound Grading System

The Singing Bowl Sound Grading System is the best comprehensive process to grade the sound character of each individual Tibetan Singing Bowl. The grading system includes a variety of live tests on each individual bowl. By using modern software technology and the human body to grade each individual bowl based on its true sound quality. The system tests a combination of many factors such as the harmonics, frequencies, resonance, how easily the bowl sings, and the way each bowl generally affects the body. This is especially important for those interested in meditation and healing with the bowls.

The grading system includes a score based on a simple scale between 0 and 100. A bowl graded with a score of 0 would be the lowest quality in sound and resonance. Bowls with a score under 80 vary from below average (40 and under), average (40 to 60), and above average (60 and up) sound quality. Any bowl graded from 80 to 100 are among the highest quality available anywhere are best suited for healing and meditation.

In addition to the score the highest quality bowls may receive an additional score of Healing Grade and Master Healing Grade. These bowls are selected based on the sound healing characteristics that each bowl creates. Only the larger bowls with the lowest frequencies and harmonics are even considered. When struck, the Healing Grade bowls are guaranteed to vibrate well over a minute and the Master Healing Grade bowls well over 3 minutes. These higher graded bowls also have the ability to alter states of consciousness and affect emotional and physical healing aspects of the body. How to Play Bowls

1. Hold the bowl in the palm of either hand.
2. With the striker, rub the outside rim in a circular motion. Keep an even pressure.
3. Gently increase the speed as the bowl begins to vibrate, and as the sound grows. It may help to tap the bowl to begin the vibration. Sometimes this method can take practice.

Another method is "gonging" or "striking" the bowls. This is a simple method that involves striking the bowl with a wood or padded striker. I do have additional padded tools available in my eBay store.

Chakras

Chakras are energy centers located along the center of the body. Many people use the bowls for chakra and energy healing. We use the traditional Chakra method when determining the corresponding Chakra for each bowl buy using the dominant note in each bowl. Below is a list of the traditional Chakra system.

The Crown chakra or Head chakra is positioned at the top of the head. It is associated with cosmic awareness, highest spirituality, and complete integration with Source. Violet is the color of the crown chakra and the musical note is B.

The Third Eye chakra is located in the center of the forehead. This chakra is also called the Ajna center. It is associated with intuition, understanding, visualization, and inner vision. Dark Indigo Blue is the color of the third eye chakra and the musical note is A.

The Throat chakra is positioned in the base of throat. It is associated with communication, expression and speaking one's truth. Azure Blue is the color of the throat chakra and the musical note is G.

The Heart chakra is positioned in the center of the chest, usually shown to be even with the nipple line. The heart is associated with compassion, friendship, empathy and the ability to give and receive love. Green is the color of the heart chakra and the musical note is F. Sometimes the heart chakra is shown as pink, especially in relation to sending love out from the heart.

The Solar Plexus chakra or Third chakra is located midway between the end of the breastbone and the navel. It is associated with issues of personal power, emotions (especially blocked emotions), passion for living, and the ability to protect oneself from being the target of negative or aggressive emotions. Yellow is the color of the solar plexus chakra and the musical note is E.

The Sacral chakra, also called the Second chakra or the Sexual chakra, is positioned in the area between the navel and the pubic bone. Depending on which sources you read, it can be shown to be centered on the navel itself or to be aligned with the sexual organs - ovaries in women and testes in men. It is associated with creativity, sexuality, relationship, and reproduction. Orange. is the color of the sacral or second chakra and the musical note is D.

The Root chakra, also called the First or Base chakra, is located at the base of the spine. It is associated with issues of survival, drive, ambition, grounding one's energy in the physical dimension, your life forces, and balancing experiences that create "fight or flight". Red is the color of the root chakra and the musical note is C.

Tibetan Singing Bowls

We tend to avoid specific dating these types of bowls. Some of these bowls date back to the late 18th century. Dating bowls is a tricky business, since their form varies but little over long expanses of time and their condition depends so much upon individual conditions of storage and use. They should be viewed as cultural artifacts of artistic merit, and viewed this way, age is of but secondary importance. We will however state that all the bowls shown here were created for local use and were used as such. These bowls are all from the Himalayas regions near Tibet.

This Tibetan hand hammered singing bowl is up to 250 years old and comes unpolished in its original form with superb hammer marks visible and a great smooth patina. It was used in Tibetan Buddhist mediation over the years. This auction also includes a striker which is used to make the bowl sing. This bowl does include the pillow (cushion) pictured. Each bowl is hand selected for its tone, size, and quality. It has a wonderful tone that carries for a very long time. The multi-layered tone of these bowls lasts as long as 3 minutes!

Singing Bowls were brought to Tibet from India along with the teachings of Lord Buddha. Most people use these bowls for Buddhist spiritual meditation or to create a great art or conversation piece. Hand made in a wonderful combination of 7 different metals which create 7 different distinct tones. According to tradition, the seven metals correspond with each of the planets, gold for the Sun, silver for the Moon, mercury for well, Mercury, copper for Venus, iron for Mars, tin for Jupiter, and lead for Saturn.

Since Tibetan singing bowls have a very mysterious history it is sometimes hard to find information about them, in fact there is literally no mention of them in the Tibetan Buddhist canon. They can be found in both monasteries and homes, but when questioned about there existence vague answers are usually given. It has been rumored that it is actually forbidden for monks to speak about the singing bowls. Some say that the bowls are used by high lamas in secret rituals, which gives them the ability to travel to different realms and dimensions. In the end one thing remains certain, that singing bowls are a very powerful spiritual tool. In addition to their traditional usage for meditation, Tibetan Singing Bowls are used for Relaxation, Stress Reduction, Healing, and Reiki.

The bowls are priced based on weight, size, and condition. The larger or heavier the bowl, the higher the price. Also, please note that all of these bowls are left in their original imported condition.

We do allow buyers to combine shipping for multiple purchases. Please complete your purchases with in 7 days and pay for them at the same time to receive the combined shipping rate.  The rule for combining packages is that you will be charged the full shipping price of the item that has the highest rate and then 1/2 off each additional item. Most items over 13 ounces ship via FedEx Ground which is our standard service in the 48 states. Most items under 13 ounces ship via first class mail.  Any Po Boxes or areas outside the 48 states must choose priority mail and email us for rates.  The Fedex standard ground rates are only available for the 48 states.

International shipping prices are posted and available at checkout. The rule for combining international packages is that you will be charged the full shipping price of the item that has the highest rate and then 1/2 off each additional item. Shipping can be greatly reduced by buying more than one item! We send all international packages over 1 pound via Global Priority Mail or FedEx which includes tracking for free.
