THIS IS AN EXCEPTIONAL WW1-ERA SOUTHBEND 1911 HUNTERS DRESS POCKET WATCH, WITH AN ENCHANTING ART NOVEAU ENGRAVED GOLD FILLED CASE WITH OPEN SHIELD, ORIGINAL ENAMEL DIAL AND EXPERTLY OPERATING MECHANICAL MOVEMENT!
Collectors and lovers of turn-of-the 19th century, Art Noveau and WW1-era antiquities will rejoice at this beautifully rendered Gold Filled South Bend gent’s hunting dress pocket watch. From the finely detailed case with delightful floral engravings to the original white enamel dial and virtually time-sealed high grade movement within… you will delight in every feature.
This absolutely extraordinary antique dress pocket watch is adorned with magnificent, ornate engravings on both the front and back of the case, and is in simply beautiful condition. The case is covered with finely detailed engravings including fancy swirls, leaves and flowers. Small shield areas hold the original owner’s engraved monogram. The edges of the case features a fancy beaded design. There is only light scratching on the case, no brass and only the slightest wear on the inner case threads. The glorious case measures apx. 35mm not including the tulip stem, which is set and wound at the 3 o’clock position in classic sidewinder fashion. The pure historic beauty of this rare South Bend antique hunting dress pocket watch is a very special investment-grade timepiece to treasure for generations, flaunt upon a chain or to display in your rare antique watch collection.
You will find that the crisp, bold original white enamel is quite easy to read and a true classic design! Signed by the prestigious American watchmaker Southbend in sans-serif lettering, this dial features crisp black Arabic numerals, with neat minute markers in the outer chapter. A sunken auxiliary dial displays the precise time down to the second with an arrow tipped hand. All three hands are dark indigo blue and appear to be original. This bright dial is nearly mint-free of crazing and in absolutely superb condition.
This extraordinary pocket watch was spared no details, and the fancy detailing of the time continues within the case! Underneath the back cover and inner dust cover, you’ll find the exceptionally clean high quality movement of this highly collectable Southbend hunters pocket watch is running strong and with incredible accuracy on finely crafted movement, with all parts bright, polished and very clean.
Signed by South Bend and bearing the serial number of 690703 places the WW1-era year of production at 1911. The striped damasking on the clean steel plates is a wonderful period-correct touch! Good luck bidding on this extraordinary and finely detailed piece of American history! You’re going to enjoy this historic and valuable Gold Filled hunter’s pocket watch with captivating turn-of-the-century details for many years to come!
