Synopsis
Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Gail Caldwell crafts a moving tribute to her deceased friend Caroline Knapp, a fellow writer, dog lover, water-sport enthusiast, ex-drinker and free thinker. Caldwell and Knapp initially came together thanks to their beloved canines, who caused an impromptu introduction at a local dog park in 1996. Their first conversations revealed a number of synchronized issues and interests, and the two lonesome single women soon became fixtures in each other's lives, sharing vacations, engaging in therapeutic discussions, and encouraging one another to be more outgoing. Both women were recovering alcoholics (Knapp having written a memoir entitled DRINKING: A LOVE STORY), and unfortunately Knapp could not escape her unhealthy past, and she succumbed to lung cancer mere months after being diagnosed in 2002. Caldwell's eloquent eulogy to her companion will touch and inspire anyone seeking to become better versed in the fine art of friendship.

Industry Reviews
"This may be a book about death and loss, but Caldwell's greatest achievement is to rise above all that to describe both the very best that women can be together and the precious thing they can, if they wish, give back to one another: power, humor, love and respect."
(08/22/2010)

"Caldwell is unflinching in depicting her friends last days...she writes of this devastating time with tremendously moving grace."
