This movie takes "the Black American Experience" from post-slavery to the election of the first African-American President of the United States. You get an up-close look into the administrations and personal lives of several presidents under which the butler served and see how his hard work and a good work ethic gave way to opened doors and promotion. Forest Whitaker's and Oprah Winfrey's characters were very believable. The aging effects were gradual and believable. Having grown up in DC, I though especially believable the movie's depiction of the characters' urban lifestyles. Casting was spot-on, especially in portraying Jackie Kennedy, Richard Nixon, and others. I loved the story, the characters (and the actors that played them), and the movie's overall message and theme.
This is a great movie. Not as accurate as I would like it historically but pretty accurate. I would recommend it for entertainment, and no more in accurate then you would find Junior High School History. It is not collegeant level accurate.

A true story - can't shelter family letting them think life is peaches and cream. Life is a struggle, at times. But it always gets better. The Buttler.
