LS7 454 Crate Engine
LS7 454 over the counter crate engine. 100% complete and original factory assembled engine. 12.50 compression, 4 bolt main block, 5140 forged steel crankshaft with cross drilled mains. 4340 forged steel connecting rods with 7/16 inch bolts for pressed pins. Forged high dome pistons, Racing mechanical camshaft 262/273 duration at 0.50, with lift at .580/.620 same as ZL1. Open chamber cast iron heads with swirl polished valves. Advertised at 500 gross horsepower, however most found out these were good for around 565 with the right carb and tuning. This was the highest horsepower engine that GM offered in the 70's, big brother to the LS6, more compression, more cam, open chamber heads that made it a true race ready engine right out of the crate. Originally designed for the Corvette, but insurance companies told GM that they would never insure them. So they were marketed and sold over the counter only.
Here is the honest history of this LS7 engine. It was purchased new over the counter from Johnson Chevrolet in Winfield Iowa in 1973. Sealed and put in dry storage for years. Owner had a 1975 3/4 ton Cheyenne that he installed this engine in and drove around a few times parked in his shop and placed up on blocks due the engine being so radical. Engine had been started over the years to keep everything like new. This engine is a 1973, very low production year and impossible to find in this condition and price.
Here are the casting numbers and build dates
Casting number on bellhousing #8999289
Build date stamped on back of block I 25 73 which is September 25th 1973 when block was cast.
Right front engine pad is stamped T 10 18 XCH which means assembled in Tonawanda, October 18 th, and XCH is the designation for the LS7 engine.
Exhaust manifolds LH# 3989343 RH# 3983910 dated 1971 correct for SS 454 chevelle.
Holley carb model 4160, List 7010, 2891 780 cfm
Edelbrock Torker 2 R aluminum intake manifold.
Upon purchase from original owner's estate, I sent pickup to a machine shop where they checked engine, started, ran and tested. Engine started right up and ran excellent and I have paperwork from shop to verify this. Engine has had timing set, new spark plugs, hoses, gaskets, oil and air filter etc. Comes with GM NOS steel exhaust rings and quadrajet throttle linkage bracket. 100% ready to drop in your vehicle.
This would be the ultimate engine for a Chevelle, Camaro, Corvette, El Camino, Nova, Yenko, Baldwin Motion etc.
I will crate and ship this engine at the buyers expense. Engine sells to United States only.
Cash or Cashiers Check only. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time.
Thanks for Looking and Good Luck.
