Korg's MICROKONTROL is a miniature controller with MIDI and USB
functionality that combines a 37-note keyboard with 16
velocity-sensitive pads. The design and feel of the pads is reminiscent
of those found on a well known series of sampling drum machines; drum
programmers should be very comfortable with this feature, and keyboard
players will appreciate assigning sounds to triggers other than black
and white keys. The 8 assignable rotary knobs and sliders on the MICROKONTROL
are cleverly unified into 8 seperate channels, each with it's own LCD
readout. This creates more intimacy with the instrument in terms of
performance, and hence the music, and less concern with the computer
screen. A 4-way Joystick and value dial support the 8 additional front
panel switches. All of this control is packed into an instrument
weighing less than 6 pounds. The MICROKONTROL is very imaginatively designed and represents a phenomemal value for playing and composing in the studio or on the road.
