John Lennon Worn Hat at Last Official Beatles Photo Shoot - August 22, 1969 Tittenhurst Park as photographed by Ethan Russell.
One of the most recognized iconic and historic images / artifacts from the final day's of the Beatles.
This wonderful piece was obtained in the fall of 2006 via Bonhams Auction in England and has been proudly displayed in a glass case ever since under controlled climate conditions.
Hat worn for the last official Beatles photo shoot, 1969, black felt, outer band decorated with six metal discs with arrow and dot motif, inner band stamped Stelzig's Roper 5 XXXXX Quality and Stelzig's Saddlery Co. Houston, Texas.
Bonhams Literature - Lot 254 The statement confirms this was borrowed by John Lennon from Mal Evans. It was worn on various occasions, including the photo-shoot and sequences for the later 'Imagine' film. It was Mal's widow, Lily, who added the purple band which is seen in numerous photographs from the period. This is now missing but the outer band still bears the pinholes where it was attached. Note: Mal Evans was a long time friend and crew member with the Beatles since their early days in Liverpool. Also see attached photo regarding purple hat band.
Comes with original signed letter from Mal Evans wife, the original high quality ornate hat box and literature as provided by Bonhams, and two original vintage 8" x 10" promotional Apple photos of The Beatles with John wearing the hat. Will also provide signed letter of provenance as to my ownership of the hat. A great investment and a one-of-a-kind music relic associated with the great John Lennon 100% Guaranteed. Its an honor to have been the custodian of this special item these past seven years and hopefully it can be preserved and enjoyed at another museum in the years to come.
