Jim Davis

Creator of Garfield the Cat

Jim Davis is the award winning cartoonist who created the popular comic strip character, Garfield. Over 2,600 newspapers now carry Garfield and an estimated 263,000,000 people read the strip every day. It is the most widely syndicated comic strip in the world according to Guinness World Records.

The fat, grouchy, opinionated cat has also appeared in several prime time Emmy award-winning TV "specials", including such classics as Garfield on the Town, Garfield in the Rough, Garfield's Halloween Adventure, and Garfield's Babes and Bullets.

Garfield & Friends, a Saturday morning cartoon, ran on CBS from 1988-94 and was broadcast around the globe in several different languages.

In 2009, The Garfield Show, a CGI animated television series, debuted on Cartoon Network USA and now airs in 135 countries. PEOPLE magazine called the show, "One of the Year's Best New Kids' Shows".

Two new books have been published this year: Garfield Brings Home the Bacon: His 53rd Book (January 31, 2012) and Garfield Left Speechless (March 6, 2012).

Coming this May, KaBOOM!, the children's comic publisher, will begin publishing Garfield in an all new monthly series. Garfield #1 is written by Mark Evanier with art by Gary Barker.

Jim is married to Jill Davis with whom he has three children, James, Ashley, and Christopher. They reside in Albany, Indiana, where Jim and his staff produce Garfield under his Paws, Inc. company, a full-service licensing studio launched in 1981. Paws, Inc. employs nearly 50 artists and licensing administrators, who work with agents around the world managing Garfield's vast licensing, syndication and entertainment empire.

Jim's most prized awards are from his peers in the National Cartoonist Society: Best Humor Strip (1981 and 1985), the Elzie Segar Award (1990), and the coveted Reuben Award (1990) for overall excellence in cartooning.

He is also the founder of The Professor Garfield Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to engaging children in learning.

About Doodle Day and NF Network

These doodles have a very important aim: the funds they raise will benefit NF Network, an organization dedicated to providing support to individuals and families affected by neurofibromatosis (NF).

Neurofibromatosis is a genetic disorder that affects one in every 2,500 births. NF is more common than Cystic Fibrosis, Muscular Dystrophy and Huntington's Disease combined. Funds raised from the Doodle Day auction will go to support education, advocacy, coalitions, and research for treatments and a cure.
