The movie Iris depicts how a vivacious and gifted woman, Iris, and her intellectual and devoted husband experience the effect of Iris' dementia. In a stroke of brilliance the movie presents glimpses of Iris' youth interspersed with the chronology of Iris' travel through the stages of dementia. At first it seems unsettling until the viewer realizes that it is a glimpse of Iris' daily reality -- here one moment than back in some previous time and back again to the present and back to a different past experience. It demonstrates, too, the toll it takes on a spouse when he assumes both roles in the marriage and takes on the added responsibility of caregiving. Too overwhelming for one person alone and not even safe for either of them. Poignant, realistic, and very well acted. This film was recommended to me by a staff person with the Alzheimer's Association. I now teach caregiver classes for the Alzheimer's Association and strongly encourage all people whose lives are touched by a loved one or acquaintance with dementia to view Iris.Read full review

A tough movie to watch because of content. Anyone facing Alzheimers should see this if they can. Danch was wonderful in the part of Iris. She is so talented and Broadbent's roll was most admirable. Hard to watch, but highly recommended.
Wonderful DVD very nice
