This film is based on the life of Marjorie Lawrence, an opera singer who returned to the stage after contracting polio. I am unfamiliar with Marjorie Lawrence, so I can't comment on the accuracy of her story as presented here. As a film, INTERRUPTED MELODY is interesting for its portrayal of Marjorie's character. She's enormously talented --- and she knows it. She's a diva in every sense of the word. She is completely self-absorbed, to the point of urging her husband, a doctor, to give up his career and travel with her. This works in the context of the film, because when she is paralyzed and cries hysterically that she wants to die, it doesn't come across as unrealistic melodrama. It seems exactly the sort of thing Marjorie would do. Eleanor Parker deserved her Oscar nomination for this role. Depending on how you feel about opera, you will enjoy --- or suffer through --- the opera scenes, some of which are quite long. Read full review

True story of a great singer overcoming real tragedy in her life and the incredible man who helped her through. Glenn Ford isn't hard to look at either!
