This book changed my life! I weighed 337 pounds. I now weigh 165. I’ve been at a healthy weight for many years because I continue to follow this plan for most of my meals. I was on high blood pressure medication and acid reflux medicine. I don’t have to take them anymore. I bought this book as a gift to help somebody else beat their weight problem. The reason why this plan works is there’s always something you can eat. You don’t have to go hungry. And you can balance any food you like. So there is no going without.

This is the 2nd best diet book around, in my opinion. The best is by the same 2 authors, has recently been published and is called The Feel Good Diet. I am glad I have both in my arsenal. They have given me the essential keys to weight loss I've been searching for. You know how you keep thinking maybe this is the one that will really help. Well, for me, these are the ones. "When the student is ready, the teacher appears" These books have come into my life at just the right time. So many books are wordy but don't say much. This book and its sequel are written in simple language with simple concepts and are very user friendly. The eating plan is also simple. This book explains why insulin resistance leads to increased weight, how to link and balance carbs with protein, the 2 hour fat window, the serotonin connection, etc. This book uses easy to remember geometric pictures that stay in your mind as you go through your day and help you stay focused. There is a calmness that comes when you are no longer on the insulin rollercoaster. That in itself makes the experience worthwhile. These 2 books are the only diet books I use now, the only ones on my desk, the only ones I travel with. The key to incorporating the information into your life style is planning ahead and that's easy with the easy menus, the recipes that are made with commonly found foods and the fast food breakdowns. The last few pages of this book deal with serotonin and ways to naturally elevate that wonderful craving blocker. If I'm craving carbs and in particular, for me, chocolate, I'm low in serotonin. Buy this book, you won't be sorry. Then buy the Feel Good Diet, it's the next step.Read full review
I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, which includes insulin resistance. I REALLY hate diets because I think they are very hard to follow and impractical with how many Americans live. This book is a "diet" of sorts, but it's more relevant to how I really live. The "diet" is more about balancing your carbs and protein to maximize how your body uses it. It does not preach to starve yourself or make you stay away from certain foods (which ends up making you crave them even more!!). I've made very minor changes to my diet and have already seen great results! It includes an EXCELLENT recipe section and a restaurant guide to make eating out easier. Since I eat out 5-7 meals per week because I travel for business, this was extremely helpful.
I really enjoyed this book. It provided an easy to understand way of keeping you insulin levels in check. When this happens your body is supposed to use food as fuel. It was an easy read (about 2 hours) and the science seems sound. I've been following the eating plan for three weeks and have lost 3 pounds, by actually adding more food into my regular eating. I give it 2 thumbs up!!
I received this book in the mail in the midst of finding out about my insulin resistance and poly cistic ovary syndrome. Although I 'm not a dieter, being able to read the concept of eating well to prevent full blown diabetes has turned my insulin levels around drastically over the past week already. Last week my insulin levels were very high-causing me to have to go to an endcronologist for further testing. After a week of reading and following the book's suggestions, I went back to the doctor's office for a follow up and they found almost no sugar in my tests. Again, I'm not a dieter, but the important thing of knowing why your body is working the way it is and how to control it, is the most important part. The results will come once you have that understanding. And it's a lifestyle change that anyone can do!Read full review
