I bought this book for a chemistry class at an introductory level. This book serves well as an introductory to college chemistry. It has been designed for those with little, or no background in chemistry at all. Therefore, it's broken down for the student. The explainations throughout the book are at a beginners level which is great when it comes to difficult concepts such as chemistry. The section of the book where you are introduced to conversions can be pretty hard to grasp if you do not have a good understnding of basic math. So, I would suggest to take a math class if you haven't already before you take this class or maybe even with the class. It would only add to your success. Otherwise, you are going to spend a lot of time trying to understand it. And, the book doesn't do the greatest job in explaining the process of breaking conversions down for you, but it helps. Also, a lot of what you are converting to takes some research from other resources because all conversion formulas that are asked for in the practice problems are not given in the book, and the ones that are given can be hard to understand. The plus side is, in the back of the book, the answers are given to questions asked throughout the chapter, and to the review questions at the end of the chapter. Therefore, you know whether or not you are doing the problems correctly, or figure out where you went wrong in working a solution. I would have to say that the pros out weight the cons and I would reccomend buying this book.Read full review
The purchase was made for my daughter who is a freshmen in college. She is pleased with the book. It was approximately one fourth of the purchase price in the college book store.
