This is a cute sequel to the first Ice Age. In this one, Manny is stricken with the other "last" mammoth on earth. Sid seems to have gotten smarter and Diego shows his weakness. As far as sequels go, this one holds true to the theory that the first is always the best and the second, usually not so great. Definitely entertaining, but lacking in comedy. The sequel follows Manny, Sid and Diego as they journey to the shelter, which resembles Noah's Ark, because their world is melting. Along the way, they meet up with another mammoth (voiced by Queen Latifah) who thinks she's a 'possum, and her two "brothers". One disaster after another befall the pack. I did love that the makers brought Scrat back for round two though. The poor squirrel beast tries to hold on to his acorn and just causes more pain for himself. The fight scene with the pirahna-type fish was wonderfully done and had me rolling. Seeing Diego lose his cool over water and showing his true yellow, was a let-down though. But the "brothers" brought some funny to the movie as they constantly attempt to "block" Manny from any notions of a love interest with his new mammoth/possum soon-to-be-girlfriend. The story is entertaining and the kids loved it very much. Definitely a must have if you already have the first Ice Age. And a welcome addition to any road collection for those long trips with the kids.Read full review
Another fun time at the animation, summer-going experience this time facing the antics of a crazed squirrel, mammoths (one who has a problem with identity), possums, and other assorted creatures. The animation is great, the action tantalizing, the storyline straight forward along with humorous lines. While not breaking much ground, this movie stands on its own for its entertainment value. The squirrel personally was too much over the top and in some ways a distraction. The use of musical interludes was quite interesting and different from other animated features that either focus on music or leave it out. The blended use of the music in this animated feature was smooth and discrete. Seven out of Ten Stars.

Highly enjoyable film. Never a dull moment as Diego, Sid and Manny find their way through the meltdown. The danger wasn't as imminent due to the fact that the meltdown is partly a blessing, while the ice age itself was all bad. How the tribe survived multiple thousands of years is not addressed, but who cares? Maybe they were actually living on the ecuator in the first movie and the ice caps just reached them in the final years of the ice age. A decade later, the climate warms up and causes the mixed emotions found in Ice Age II. The central theme of friendship in spite of differences and the humor found in trying situations plays well. Overcominging fears in the face of danger is a prominent theme. Jokes fly fast and furious for all ages. And the proto-squirrel steals our hearts with his absolute devotion to caching acorns. A strong production for Twentieth Century Fox.Read full review
