I bought this book in order to gain not only a better understanding of Lacan's thought but perhaps even more so to better understand the basis of Zizek's thought. Lacan is one of Zizek's great loves/inspirations. If you are wanting to get a start on Zizek, I think this is a good place to start. He explains some foundations of his (Zizek's) philosophy, as well as Lacan's of course. As for the content - great thoughts. Zizek most always does a good job of pairing thought with well-placed anecdotes or helpful imagery/analogies. Some say Zizek "meanders." Perhaps he does, but it is an intriguing meandering that is difficult to tear yourself away from. If you have absolutely no philosophical background then this may be a harder read at times, but everyone has to start somewhere.
