The Home Depot gift card is honored at most of the Home Depot stores and on their website. These gift cards work in a similar fashion to bank debit cards except there are no fees associated with the cards for the buyer or the recipient. Made of plastic and about the same size as a credit or debit card, the gift cards provide monetary convenience by eliminating the need to carry cash. Buyers can pay for the cards using any of the major credit cards. Customers who visit The Home Depot stores can also pay for the gift cards with cash or by charging their The Home Depot Consumer Credit Card.

It is also possible to order The Home Depot e-gift cards, where the recipients receive an email notification of the gift. Because the gift is sent via email, recipients can reprint the form should they misplace or lose their original printout. There are no expiration dates on either the plastic cards or printed e-gift cards.

Whether gift card are ordered online or bought in person, personal information, such as their name, address, and credit card information, is not traded, rented, or sold to other organizations. In addition, online card purchases are processed through a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) software program, which encrypts all personal data. A gift card can be shipped to anyone in the United States. Moreover, The Home Depot only ships the gift cards to street addresses not to post office boxes. Canadian customers can also purchase the cards online at the official The Home Depot website.

Although The Home Depot gift card is not returnable, the owner of the card can return products that they purchased with the card and receive store credit. However, the card cannot be used to pay for Tool Rental deposits or be exchanged for cash. The exceptions to this policy apply in cases when laws allow for a cash exchange.

If the gift card recipients place online orders with the card, The Home Depot does not deduct the amount of the purchase until the items are shipped. And for in-store purchases, The Home Depot does not deduct the amount until the customer receives a notice that the ordered products are available to be picked up in-person.

The Home Depot gift cards take the guesswork out of shopping for family, and friends, preventing recipients from getting gifts that they may not want. It also ensures that the recipients can shop for products they need or want for their home or yard.

Because The Home Depot gift cards can be used to make online purchases, the card owner can obtain products such as hand tools, power tools, lawn mowers, outdoor furniture or barbecue grills from their home or office.
