So, I watched three of the movies, but that was enough. It must have thrilled the audiences of the 1930's, but today's movie viewers will either yawn, go to sleep, or howl with laughter, if they are not upset at the blatant racism in the Fu Manchu film. It's akin to watching Disney's SONG OF THE SOUTH in terms of racial stereotypes. But if one suspends disbelief and accepts the ridiculous torture devices, it can be entertaining. Myrna Loy is an absolute joke as a Chinese woman, and Boris Karloff goes about making ugly faces while speaking like an English gentleman. As for two other films: Bela Lugosi is in a parody of a horror film, and Lionel Barrymore cuts up the scenery with an over the top performance aided and abetted by an actress playing a mad woman. Actually, this DVD is worthwhile since it contains many films not readily available on DVD. So it is a bargain to get them. But it is '30's style and requires patience. Read full review

Great oldies. This is when horror was horror without the gore and sex! Those old time directors knew how to deliver a yarn with good old fashioned mastery! My favorite is the Devil Dolls with Lionel Barrymore. I saw this movie on TV when I was about 5 or 6 and it fascinated me to no end. The One with Humphrey Bogart I didn't even know existed until my father recorded it for me from a late night showing. As for the rest except for Doctor X I don't remember them at all. So it will be as though I'm seeing them for the first time!
