Patrick O'Malley (Tom Selleck), is a drunk who also gives flying lessons. He was a highly decorated Ace pilot in WWI. His mechanic and side-kick, "Struts" (Jack Waston), does what he can to keep him sober and out of trouble. As usual, he is broke. Eve Tozer (Bess Armstrong) is a society girl, party girl, and all around spoiled brat. Her father, Bradley Tozer (Wilford Brimley), and his good for nothing, crooked partner, Bentik (Robert Morley), started a company years ago, and they made a fortune. Bradley Tozer is one of those men always chasing the next adventure, and hasn't been seen for years, and Bentik is trying to have him declared dead. If he is so declared, Bentik, as the surviving partner will inherit everything, and Eve will be out in the cold and broke! Eve wants to hire O'Malley and his two airplanes to go and find him so that he can show up in any British court and prove he is still alive. Eve is a pretty good pilot too, but O'Malley says "NO", until she offers him more money than he can imagine. From Istanbul they are off the next morning. It is 1922. O'Malley and Struts in one plane and Eve in the other, through six countries leading them to finally find the eccentric Bradley Tozer in China, where he is helping a small village defend against a local warlord. O'Malley and Eve help them to win the final battle, however their one remaining plane is damaged in the process, leaving their immediate future actions uncertain. As it turns out, all of the patents and formulas were in his name, and had been signed over to Eve years ago, and what was left, was worthless.Read full review
Oldie but Goodie! I saw this movie when it was first released and really enjoyed it. In a discussion over dinner Tom Selleck was discussed which made me think of this movie. So... I found it on ebay and bought it. Glad I did! Still a great story, lots of action, subtle comedy, great aerial photography of the Himalyas and great acting. Bess Armstrong was a wonderful foil for Tom Sellecks' lead. Highly recommend.

I must qualify that our family has never watched a film that T. Selleck starred in and not enjoyed it.. This one is just a cut above the rest he has done. They kept the language clean. it has just enough romantic spark to keep you wondering. "SPEAK" will come to have new meaning for you after watching this well done clip. I also have to admit I am a flying buff and anything with rag wings and radial's makes me drool but that isn't the primary reason we enjoyed the film. Enough action to keep it interesting as they jump from the frying pan into the fire evading their those that after them. The scenery makes a fabulous backdrop for the whole unfolding plot with roaring 20's style music where apropo. Tom is the hardluck / washed up pilot who can fly anything anwhere if money is to be made. Bess is the gal who needs to find a family member in the worse way before someone steals their company.Read full review
If you like Tom Selleck then you will truly enjoy this movie. There is a great chemistry between Tom Selleck and Beth Armstrong that most of us can relate to! Good action and good aerial scenes. You will laugh at the comedic side of Selleck. Filmed in Croatia.

Lassiter is my favorite Tom Selleck movie. I love the plot, love the characters, and love seeing him in Lauren Hutton's negligee! High Road To China is also a good movie, it may not be a blockbuster, but it's pleasant to watch, and entertaining. Even my husband enjoyed it.
