This remarkable device takes the guesswork out of finding the depth below the ice! It easily "sees" right through it and gives you a clear, accurate readout of the depth below the ice. THEN you dig your hole! Find that hillside under the ice - or a deep hole that no one else can find. I bought this about 5 years ago, used it for 2 winters and it works great! Up in NH our lake froze 3' thick but that was no problem as long as the cone end is in some type of water - even a little - on top of the thick ice. But now we have moved to warmer points, south and i have no use for it. Have kept it in my bureau now for too long! Even though the original battery still works, it comes with a new one. 
Of course this can be used just holding it in the water to check depth. It does not need to look through ice.
