I have a home recording studio and drums is my primary instrument. I have become the recording engineer for my bands, and for my friends bands.... and the drums that I love more than anything are the hardest instrument in the world to record. Unforgiving is probably the right word. I have have tried many different techniques and only got a marginal sound.... which I have never been happy with. I wanted a big drum sound, but not over powering.... couldn't do it until I read "The Drum Recording Handbook" by Booby Owsinski and Dennis Moody. These guys wrote an excellent guide in plain english. I followed their guidance and am now getting a GREAT drum sound. What I really like is the choices and alternatives that are described. You can tell these guys have a really strong background in recording drums and this comes out in the book. Last comment is that they get to the point quickly as well. It's a reference book as well that I now keep out in my studio. If you are trying to record drums and are not a pro recording person, this book is manditory for you! You will not be disappointed.
