This is a good guitar with good sound that for the most part lives up to the claims touted on the Hagstrom web site. I purchased it because I also own a Hagstrom F200P and this guitar is exceptional. However, the Swede disappoints in comparison. The action is higher, the sound not quite as Les Paul-like as I had hoped and it has some tuning issues as well. It is however, cosmetically gorgeous. This company does a fabulous job with their finishes. In all fairness, I did buy this guitar used and I am unaware of how it was played, stored, treated, etc... But I am hoping that by having it serviced by a professional, it will become the instrument I expected it would be.
It looks good, feels good, plays good, and sounds great! The neck is incredible, the fretboard and frets fantastic. This might be my favorite guitar! It has great bass - I like to use both pickups for rhythm, and this baby is quite nice that way. Not a huge fan of the "tone switch," but it does give you some extra sounds. If you're looking for a nice guitar at a nice price, this is it!

I have a 74 swede that I bought new and it was a joy to play; the sound is smooth and "sweet"...kinda halfway between a strat and a Les Paul. The shallow neck in comparison to the Les Paul was the selling point for me, but as another reviewer mentioned the original tuning pegs really did not hold tune w/ light gauge strings. If you look at the old guitars now on eBay you'll see a lot of them have replaced the pegs w/ grovers or schallers. The pickups are weak in comparison to other guitars too...when a swede is plugged into the same amp as a strat or les paul the swede was always drowned out by the other guitars. But, how many times are two guitars going to be plugged into the same amp. Like I mentioned before, it has a smooth sound that will depend on a strong amp if you're looking for power. The weight and sculpting of the body is also a lot more comfortable to play than a Les Paul; it fits into your chest kinda like a strat and it feels more balanced because I think the wood is lighter and there is more mass toward the neck than a Les Paul. Since I have not played guitar in 20 years I wish I would have bought a Les Paul or Strat in 1974 for investment reasons, but in terms of playability and comfort it served my well...no regrets.Read full review
