Texas Everbearing or Brown Turkey Fig

Fig Texas Everbearing or 'Brown Turkey'

Also called: Everbearing, Harrison, Ramsey, Lee's Perpetual, Eastern Brown Turkey, and Brunswick.

Produces sweet, high quality edible figs. Most widely grown variety. Rivals 'Celeste' in popularity. Moderate size fruit of bronze color with medium eye opening. Ripens in late July until late fall and will fruit following severe freeze damage.

Suited to the Southeastern US. It is of the common variety of fig meaning it does not require pollination or another plant to develop and mature fruit.

10 Things to do with Figs

1.  Eat dries figs as a healthy energy snack. For extra flavour and nutrients, stuff them with nuts and a little honey

2.  Add figs to baked goods such as muffins, cakes and muesli bars.

3.  Add dried or fresh figs to porridge, oatmeal or breakfast cereals.

4.  Stew dried figs in fruit juice with other dried fruits to make a delicious fruit salad. Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg before serving

5.  Poach figs in red wine or fruit juice and serve with Greek yogurt or creme fraiche.

6.  Add quartered fresh figs to a salad of fennel, rocket and parmesan cheese.

7.  Stuff fresh figs with goat's cheese and chopped almonds and serve as an appetizer or dessert.

8.  Make a fig butter by boiling dried figs in fruit juice until soft. When all the liquid has been absorbed, place the mixture in a food processor and blend until smooth. Use to spread on rice cakes, toast or crackers.

9.  Add chopped fresh figs to rice, quinoa or couscous dishes.

10.    Make a fig tart by grinding two handfuls of walnuts in a food processor. Add one packet of dried figs, 1/2 packet raisins, 200ml apple juice, 1 tablespoon grated orange zest, 2 tablespoons honey and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. Process until the mixture is the texture of a sticky paste. Press into a pastry case and bake at a medium heat for 35 minutes.

Shipped in a 3 inch deep pot.

The Five Most Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. How big are the plants?

A.They are usually shipped in 6 oz. pots. In order to give you the most value for your money we try to keep these plants under 8 inches high because they will grow rapidly to full size after you receive them. This affords you the greatest value for your money and keeps your shipping costs to a minimum. Sizes vary by variety and are usually indicated in the ad. In order to get your plants to you in a timely fashion we will in rare cases ship plants that are smaller than indicated. These plants are an exceptional value and will soon grow to the size indicated and beyond.

Q. How long will it take to receive my plants?

A. Plants.  Our goal is to ship plants within 7 – 10 days after we receive payment (or check clears.) 95% of shipments are within that time frame with over half being less than 10 days. (If your plants don’t arrive in this time period please email us if we haven’t emailed you first.)

A. Plant Supplies. Usually ship in less than 7 days. If it will be longer we’ll contact you.

Q. How can I know when they will arrive?

A. You will be emailed the day they are shipped. The email will contain a confirmation number with instructions for tracking and confirming at USPS.com.

Q. I emailed but you didn’t respond.

A. If you don’t receive a prompt answer, please check that our emails are not being blocked or deleted at your end. If you don’t receive a reply, 9 times out of 10 that’s why.

Q. What if I’m not pleased?

A. If you’ve read this far we’re pretty sure you’ll be pleased but sometimes we make mistakes, plants/weather don’t cooperate, or a package is damaged in transit. For whatever reason, if you are not pleased we ask that you contact us before leaving feedback. (Ebay® says to do this: [Feedback Instructions] “If you have a dispute, contact your trading partner to try and resolve the dispute before leaving feedback.)” We work very hard to ensure that you are 100% satisfied and that you have success with your plants.
