What you need to bring

  • License for the state you will be fishing (guides preference for best fishing conditions)
  • Chest waders (felt sole boots with cleats are preferred and are a major plus traversing the shale bottom which can be slick in areas. Wearing rubber lug sole boots is like walking on ice on the flat shale areas!)

He has done it all - from owning a fly shop to commercial and competition fly tying. He has been guiding Trout & Steelhead anglers since 1996.

Chris "The Bug Man" Kazulen is a Casting Instructor, Fly Tier & Guide; Licensed, Insured, and CPR & First Aid Certified.

Chris is a contracted fly tyer & contracted guide for DeFrank's Flies & Guide Service. During the months of March & April and October - December Chris relocates to Northeast Ohio to guide his clients in Steelhead Alley. Between the months of May and August you will find Chris prowling the waters for trout, accompanied by his clients, in some of the most majestic mountain streams along the Eastern Coast in search of Browns, Rainbows, Brookies & the elusive Tiger Trout.

For the past 17 years, Chris has packed alot of destination fly fishing in, ranging from the midwest back to the east coast for Trout, Steelhead, Smallmouth Bass, Blues, Stripers, Shark... and in the past 10 years has brought forth his experience guiding with Mark.

How did he aquire the name "Bug Man?"

Throughout the years of sharing my passion of fly fishing with Chris, I have met no other fellow angler that will chase down a hatching insect like a Banchee. Time and time again I would witness the Jeckle and Hyde. Other anglers would look in shear awe of this blaze of waders running down a winged insect flying through the air gracefully, one would swear he was skating the surface. I thought I created a monster, but in reality Chris simply gives 110% in whatever he does. He is a very outgoing person, conversational and lives to share his passion for the great outdoors.
