HOW THE GROOVE SHARPENER WORKS
FACTORY-FRESH, Most new wedges will help you stop a ball quickly. But independent tests show that after 100 or more shots with two-piece balls, traditional wedge grooves suffer a significant loss of stopping power and back spin. This causes metal to collapse into the grooves causing the grooves to become dull.
The GROOVE SHARPENER works by removing bent or rolled over metal that has collapsed in the groove of your club. The removal of this rolled over material creates a sharpened leading edge of your groove for the ball to engage. The GROOVE SHARPENER also work by cleaning your grooves to create a better channel for water to disperse from the club face. This will greatly increase your backspin on shots from the rough. When you are hitting from the rough the grass gets trapped between the ball and the club face causing the water from the grass to squeeze out. With out clean groove the water has no place to go it causing the ball to hydroplane up the face of the club, creating very little or no backspin. With clean grooves the water will displace out the sides of the grooves and the ball will engage the grooves.
The GROOVE SHARPENER is made of heat treated tool steel (A-2) which measures a hardness of 61 Rockwell. Because the tool is so hard it will not loose its cutting with repeated use. The GROOVE SHARPENER is designed to remove rolled over metal from the side of the groove which produces the sharp edge.
The GROOVE SHARPENER can be used on either end. It has two different cutting ends, one end has a U end that measures .035 of a inch and the other side has a V shaped groove . You can cut a U shaped groove or a V shaped groove. Instructions on how to use the tool will be sent with the tool. The GROOVE SHARPENER meets the new specifiactions for groove shape and conforms to the latest ruling on golf grooves as set forth by the USGA and R&A for 2010.
The GROOVE SHARPENER will not damage or render your clubs non-conforming with normal use. According the current revisions to the "Rules of Golf" (Jan 1, 2010) regulates the cross-sectional area of grooves on all clubs, with the exception of drivers and putters, and limit groove edge sharpness on clubs with lofts equal to or greater than 25 degrees . It is important to remember that most clubs in production prior to Jan. 1, 2010 were designed to comply with a different set of groove specifications. Clubs that conform to the groove rules that were in effect prior to Jan. 1, 2010 will continue to conform to the Rules of Golf until at least 2024, unless the Condition of Competition is in effect. If the Condition of Competition is in effect, the clubs must comply with the specifications effective from Jan. 1, 2010.
