Set of Ammonite Geocoins (4)
These geocoins depict ammonites from different periods of the geological record and show the breakup of Pangea through time.
In the Late Triassic, a single supercontinent – Pangea, surrounded the Tethys Sea.
In the Early Jurassic, Pangea began to rift from the Tethys Sea in the east to the Pacific in the west. This ultimately gave rise to the supercontinents of Laurasia and Gondwana by Late Jurassic time.
By the Late Cretaceous, Pangea was split into numerous recognizable continental masses and the Atlantic Ocean was rifting apart.
This set of copper ammonites is one of only 50 sets made. They are trackable on geocaching.com and each ammonite has its own icon on the geocaching website.
