It might be new in 2014, but Garmin automatically updates the maps, all you need to do is download Garmin Express for free onto your desktop. I lost mine, bought this one second hand on eBay for 15, and it works like charm. If you'd rather waste your money on something newer, be my guest. Excellent product that works very well, and that I've literally used to successfully navigate the worst NYC has to offer.

This product is difficult to use and had old outdated maps. The most difficult part was the delay, often you would be a block or two past the turn before it would tell you to turn. The instructions to update were printed on a piece of copy paper and did not allow update. It was basically worthless and a waste of money.

simple gps. you must pay for updates but price is reasonable. don't really need them though. speed trap and camera trap warnings, just wish it came with a wall charger. leaving it in the car to charge is a invitation to theft. If you have a short trip, it may not completly charge. Does a good job of picking up obscure streets. Clear interface, and you can turn off driver safety mode so you can input while driving. Great feature if you've got a passenger to do the inputting. Not safe or pointless if its just you in the motorcar. Got it for under $40- a great price for someone who is unemployed and has to go "g-d" knows where for interviews. Voice giving directions can be made louder--great if you have a old truck or muscle car and need to hear over motor, road or tyre noise.
I've had several GPS's over the years. Sure, they did more things, like played music and kinda warned me of traffic ahead. That said I ended up using my older Nuvi 50 and now have three. I want a GPS to do one thing---GET ME FROM A TO B. The Nuvi 50 does that perfectly. I have the 50LM's which have free lifetime map upgrades. BTW that's an easy process. Stick with the Nuvi 50, the later models like the Nuvi 52 don't have the bright screen and the sharp contrasting colors the 50 has. My Nissan Altima has a build-in GPS that just sucks compared to my Nuni's. When I need a GPS while driving the Altima the built-in remains off and a Nuvi 50 happily sits on top of my dash in its beanbag.

I bought this GPS to replace the exact model that I already Owned. I left the original one exposed to the Florida sun too often. Result: the screen developed a rectangular dark space, making it impossible to read. The one I got with this purchase works very well. This time I am NOT leaving it exposed to heat and sunlight! It's an "open box" item but the operation and value are excellent. A very good purchase.
