The power light is the “Protection OK” light. This means the surge protection on the device you bought is malfunctioning. At best the MOVs are fried, and your surge protection isn’t up to spec, or the coax connections aren’t protected. At worst, elements of the SMP aren’t working, and you don’t have non-sacrificial surge protection. Either way, you should either turn down/return the sale, or contact Furman to get it repaired. The PST-8 and any of the Furman products with SMP are some of the best surge protection products on the market. They have non-sacrificial surge protection and over voltage protection. Their down sides are no under voltage protection or ability to deal with inrush current. The sound quality is rolled off in the high frequencies. Many people love this “clean” sound.

An amazing product that really does make a difference in the quality of the line voltage being used by any item plugged into it. Noted a decrease in noise level which was always present, but not really noticeable until it was removed. Once the stereo and its components were plugged into the PST-8 there was a notable difference in the playback of all music from each program source, especially vinyl discs. My music now sounds even better than ever before. I can truly recommend this product. Peter Martens (Retro-Audio Man)

I bought this strip with expectations of a mild, but hopefully perceptible improvement in sound quality. I was shocked at the difference plugging my whole system into it made. My wife was able to easily tell the difference too. Treble sparkles but isn't harsh, bass is much punchier, but not boomy at all. MP3s sound better, vinyl background noise really dropped, and records sound amazing, as do Blu-rays. Going back to my generic powerstrip afterwards made music sound much more dull and lifeless, bass much flatter. There was a bit of video improvement, but not nearly as noticeable as the quite remarkable audio improvement. To summarize, buying one of these is equivalent to upgrading an audio device. It's beefy as all get out, and really well made. Highly recommended.

I use four of these Furman power stations on stage for live bands. I have compared the sound with and without these when pushing the PA speakers. There is an obvious reduction in hum. I will not plug in my tube amps into anything else.

... If you want to improve and obtect your audio/video system, Furman products are the way to go. Not fancy to look at, like a "power strip" on the ground or wall behind your rack, but they work as well as the ones that look like fancy stereo components. The money is in the circuitry, not the cabinet.
