This boxset is absolutely perfect! I love the extra features and everything! I LOVE that there are 2 kinds of subtitles, the first one EXACTLY shown as what the English voices say, and the second one EXACTLY as what the Japanese voices say. That is wonderful!! For I know that either way, when I switch the subtitles and the audio, both are exactly correct. Er, if you know what I mean!^o^ I really love this, for it's really hard to find subtitles in animes that are exactly what the English voices are saying, so this is certainly unique. To my knowledge, this special 4-disc collection remains the only anime to have both English and Japanese (Eng subs, but exactly what the Japanese meant to say in their language) subtitles. The 4 DVD cases and the box themselves are very beautiful with artwork and short summaries about the episodes, making worthwhile of your money. But since it's just a 26-episode anime, and there are about 6 or so episodes on each disc, making a hassle when you have to keep on switching discs to continue to the next episodes or special features. But really, the great artwork do make up for it.^^ As for the series, I LOVE it!! But I know that they could do way better! And I really, REALLY wish that they would continue the series, and not just ended it at 26 episodes! Episode 26 was kind of a cliffhanger, and the director refuses to continue the story! I am so disappointed in him! As for the voices, I love both audios, but of course, there are some certain voices that do not match the lovable characters--in MY opinion. I cannot stand Japanese Yuki's voice! For they used a woman's voice for his, and I was so displeased! I prefer a man's voice for his!!T_T And the Japanese girl's voice for Tohru is ANNOYING! When I heard her speaking normally, I find myself wanting to throttle her, for why can't she just use her normal ok voice for Tohru, but instead have to use her stupid high-pitch girly version of voice for my beloved Tohru??!!!~_~ T_T I love Tohru, and I am so disappointed that the Japanese girl makes her sound too girly. I mean, sure, Tohru IS girly, but her voice is a beautiful one! Or should be!! I prefer the English voice for Tohru over the Japanese girl's. Not that there's anything wrong with her voice, but I just wish she didn't made Tohru sounds so silly and high-pitched. AND, I wished the ENGLISH cast didn't used a woman's voice for Momiji's voice!! Eww...--well, the girl's voice is actually very beautiful and emotional (correct in situations that calls for her soft voice), but I wanted a cute boy's voice for Momigi! (Sigh) Of course, both voicing cast can't be expected to be perfect. But still, even with the disappointments I find, I still love this anime series!!^_^ (And I'm sorry if my comments about the voices tick off some of you who like the voices the way they are! I'm just voicing my opinion, so that fans who haven't yet seen the anime know what to expect. Sorry again!!~_~ ^_^) AND I WISH THAT THE SERIES STILL CONTINUES!!! It'd be wonderful, for the story gets even more intense and sweeter!! This is an excellent anime, and if you don't know anything about Fruits Basket, I highly recommend this anime to newcomers who like soft/slow romance and emotional/bully problems. If you're more of a high-action anime fan, don't buy this series but watch it a little bit first to see if it's to your liking. Yes, I LOVE Fruits Basket!!^^Read full review
Twisting the lifes of a cursed family into the unrelenting, uncondition love of a wounded girls heart makes for such a bitter-sweet tale. Quirky fun, and sometimes light, this is not a tale for the judgemental or for those who are seeking vengence. This is a story for all those who need love and wish they could believe in themselves as much as they should. This series is dramatic and a little romantic with the crazy fangirl humor of other, similar shojo animes. I wish me and my daughter could watch more than just this one box set. We each wish the girl ends up with someone different. Watch this anime and decide who you think Tohru Honda should fall for-the cat or the rat? Caution, topics include death and loss, and do not seem intended for those under 7.
My best friend let me borrow this box set because she absolutely loves this series so much she can watch it over and over without getting bored. So I was like hey sure I'll watch it, I've heard of Fruits Basket before but I've never gotten to watching or reading it. So I watched all four volumes and I loved it! The storyline, characters, everything is wonderful! After I returned the box set to her (such a cute box and the dvds are slim too so it doesn't take up much space) I just had to get one of my own! So ran over here to ebay and purchased one heehee~ This was an amazing anime I absolutely loved it and I bet anybody else would too!
Although the manga is BETTER by far (if you don't read it after watching the series you're doing yourself a great injustice), I must say that I love this series. The art is lovely, and the English voices are okay (I prefer the Japanese). This series inspired me to read the manga, which is now my favorite book series of all time. The show itself tries to be a little more lighthearted than the books. At first glance, the series is fluffy and ... silly. But as you watch it (especially the ending), you will realize that there is more to this series than meets the eye. The characters are ALL well-rounded, and it's impossible not to find a favorite (there are SO many to choose from!)
I bought the fruits basket series because I'm a huge fan of the manga (I read all 23 volumes). The amime is really good, it captured a great deal of the characters; their personalities are very well shown. The only thing I didn't like it's that the anime doesn't show the whole story. I guess I'm one nore of those fans praying to get a second season of fruits basket and see the end of the story. Over all, this anime series is excellent. I recommend it to all the fruits basket fans. It's something we could treasure.
