Alembic copy

Here is my Fernandes FAB 180 bass for sale. It was my main bass for about two years until I got a highend Ken Smith. As you might have noticed it is literally a replica of the standard point series 1 basses that Alembic was making in the latter 70’s!

It was made in the early 80’s, no way to tell exactly when. There’s not much information on these, they are super rare. This particular bass is phenomenal and works exactly like an Alembic series bass would. It does not have the original power supply or cable, I had to build my own from schematics on the Alembic site. The power supply, stereo/mono output, and neutrik 5 pin cable that I built are included and work excellently. It can also run off two 9v batteries in the body, with mono output through the standard ¼ jack on the front of the bass. I converted that jack to mono from stereo. I replaced the original pickups (one of which was dead) with Alembic AXY pickups bought new from Alembic over the phone. They work perfectly and quietly.

They’re various small dings in spots, nothing really major, the worst is at the top of the headstock and is visible in the pictures. There is some checking in the finish where the headstock meets the neck, but the wood there is fine. In some of the pictures there is a black hair tie around the neck in this spot, I used it to deaden the strings during two hand tapping. I removed it for the outdoor photos. The finish overall is probably 8/10

I added a shot of the electronics. There was originally a tiny bit of foil that was the sole source of shielding. I replaced that with strips of adhesive copper shielding and soldered it all together. The parts I couldn't reach with copper I painted with some electrical shielding paint, you will notice it's dark color on the left in the electronics cavity. Astute observers will notice that the hum canceler (the middle of the three pickups) has been disconnected; when I put the AXY pickups in (which are themselves humcanceling pickups) it began to buzz, but disconnecting the hum canceler and letting the AXYs do their thing eliminated the noise problem. If you happen to have one of these basses and you have a noise problem, try the Alembic AXY pickups, they basically solve it on their own.

I don't want to deal with returns so item is as-is, bid accordingly. Paypal only, I will try to ship within two business days. Let me know if you have any questions, I will try to answer them as soon as possible. USA bidders only. Good luck!
