Though I was in the middle of reading two other very good books at the time, I found myself putting them down to read only this well-written story a friend had recommended to me. I was a bit confused at the beginning, but was intrigued enough to continue till Hendra introduced Father Joe. Then I was hooked by Hendra's relationship with Father Joe and the clarity of the picture Hendra draws of this unusual man. The book contains two photos of Father Joe --in different places in the book but exactly the same. As I read, I would turn often to one or the other photo of this plain, smiling, loving face just to reinforce the warmth I was experiencing from Hendra's portrait of him. The book is also an honest portrait of the author with all his very human flaws. When I finished it, I immediately sent a copy to a friend in California and recommended it highly to others, just as I am highly recommending it here.Read full review
