FRANKIE AND HAZEL features an attractive cast in a dramedy centering around two girl overachievers, one immersed in local politics, the other in competing spheres of baseball and ballet. The latter involves more a wish-fulfillment dream of Frankie's grandmother than an ambition of Frankie herself. Granddaughter would much rather slug one out of the ballpark. Hazel is concerned with extending town public library service hours and cleaning up her community's neglected park. After an aborted campaign for mayor of her hometown, the youth settles for a more advisory role to the incumbent. Frankie meanwhile manages to get a key hit, propelling her team to victory and on the same afternoon dance an impeccable solo assuring her a slot in a New York City ballet company's junior training school. Not especially credible, but highly satisfying no doubt for youthful viewers. This film is well acted by the three leading juvenile characters and certainly a viable candidate for Family Film Night.Read full review
