1ST EDITION, 1ST PRINTING 1953
This listing is for a First Edition, First Printing of FAHRENHEIT 451 by Ray Bradbury, published in 1953 by Ballantine Books, New York (see image of copyright page). The book and jacket are in great condition. The book has red boards and bright unfaded yellow titles to spine and front board. Curry binding D (no priority), the true first edition hardbound issue. Expanded from the novella "The Fireman", published in 1951. Filmed in 1966 by Francois Truffaut. Boldly signed by Ray Bradbury in red marker on a loosely laid in bookplate.
The boards are in very good plus condition with clean cloth and bright unfaded yellow titles to front and spine. The book has no edgewear and just a very slight touch of rubbing to bottom corners. This is most unusual as this title is usually found with alot of edgwear and/or rubbing. The binding is tight and square. The end papers are clean with no bookstore stamps, no stains and no inscriptions. The internal pages are clean and flat with no marks, no stains, no handling marks, no writing, no bent pages, no stains, and no foxing. Small paper pull to contents page. Beautiful, crisp, clean book appearing as unread. Please see detailed images.
The original first edition dust jacket is in great condition with some light overall toning, and spine fading of the red tones as typically found with this off-white jacket (the numbers '451' on the spine typically fade out). Otherwise the jacket is in great condition with no rips, no chips, no stains and no foxing. The dust jacket is NOT price clipped and has a stated price of $2.50. Please see the many detailed images. The dust jacket is now protected in a new clear archival cover.
Extremely scarce Bradbury title with both a great unclipped dust jacket, and with a boldly signed bookplate. The least expensive complete copy of this title on Abes starts at $2000, with copies in this condition selling for $2700 and up! Presents beautifully on the shelf, in addition to making a wonderful investment. Would make a perfect gift for a Bradbury collector. This book is part of a collection being sold. Please see our stores on Ebay, Abebooks.com and and MeierAndSons.com for other listings, many of which are science fiction first editions, including many other Bradbury first editions.
Please note the cost to ship includes full insurance. The cost of insurance will show up as a handling charge on your invoice, but is only the cost to fully insure the book in transit.
