Exquisite & rare antique French sterling silver 83pc flatware set, PUIFORCAT silversmith marks with an ornate Louis XV rococo pattern and three tier fitted storage chest! Gorgeous! One of the more ornate of the Puiforcat patterns, Louis XV features a host of sinuous tendrils and rocailles! This set with interlaced monograms on the backs of all handles and includes the original matching knives, very rare! Thick .950 sterling silver, heavy in the hand and scrumptious to the eye! All bear the French Minerve or Minerva hallmark, the tiny number "1" in the upper right corner designates them as being in .950 silver (95% pure and higher than the .925 standard for 'sterling' silver). Silversmith marks for the world famous House of PUIFORCAT, these actually the initials of Emile Puiforcat.
PUIFORCAT - what is in a name? A history, a legacy - an entity unto itself! Some would say it's being a snob; but those who really 'get' it know it's about honoring excellence in design and keeping the Masters, something I think our American culture has lost sight of. In Paris, I know a silversmith who is, himself, declared a National Treasure. Imagine the way he feels when he spends that extra time creating something spectacular, restoring some other silversmith's creations from centuries ago. Legacy is more than a word! But if it were a word, it might be 'Puiforcat'! One of the world's most highly regarded silversmiths and known for the quality of craftsmanship and enduring styles. In a very tight circle of the most honored names in French sterling silver, and for all good reason. The company is now owned by HERMES (since 1990s), and has a long and lauded history that stands well in your behalf in acquisition and enjoyment of your investment in a set like this one. A total of 4752 grams, considering 50 grams for handle only on the very heavy knives (blades not included - we weighed a similar French knife insert, subtracted from the total weight).
The set you see here includes: 12pc 10 1/8" dinner knives 12pc 8 3/8" luncheon or entremet knives 12pc 8 5/8" dinner sized spoons 12pc 8.5" dinner sized forks 12pc 7.5" spoons 12pc 7 3/8" forks 11pc 5 3/4" teaspoons (one missing)
The storage chest is not original to the set but, as you can see, beautifully compliments it and leaves you room to grow your setting! A set that you will love to own, one that you will lovingly pass on to your generations to come!
Very good condition. As noted, there is one smaller teaspoon missing, only eleven remain. Twelve pieces in all of the rest, the knives are superb with newer replaced stainless steel blades (always a plus since the originals would have been regular steel and likely would have had age corrosions and pitting). There are some knife marks on the fork tines but they could easily be wheel polished. The chest is in great shape with only some denting to the metal corners and a bit of staining inside (see pictures). The chest is not original but of the same age and all pieces fit perfectly, PLUS it has fittings to hold a setting for 24 so you have room to add to this already comprehensive set. Working lock and key, too! The chest with flatware weighs a hair under 27 pounds. See pictures for all measurements and weights.

Return Policy: We always honor a 3-day return on our items, and guarantee them to be as described. Money back, less shipping costs, which are not refundable, so ask questions if necessary. We're easy to deal with.
Shipping and Handling Policy:
You are very important! Our fine inventory is very important. And your ranking of our performance is also very important! We wish to keep our 4.9 - 5 star ratings in all categories. Customer satisfaction is paramount with us, so if you're thinking we have not deserved your highest marks, please contact us and allow us to be sure your concerns are completely satisfied before you rank us. We aim for 5-star transactions every day, and depend upon you to tell us directly if we have not yet met that standard for your transaction. Thank you! We most often use USPS for our shipping needs but will be happy to ship by another carrier if you prefer.
We charge only actual postage & insurance, never a handling fee and never for packaging materials. Ebay is now requiring that our clients rank us on "shipping". The shipping price, speed and handling are actually under the sole control of the delivering postal agency, not Antiques & Uncommon Treasure so please remember that and leave us high DSR rankings. As always, please also feel free to contact us if you have any problems or concerns, we'll do what we can to ensure a happy and mutually enjoyable transaction.
Insurance has been eliminated as an option by ebay, forcing us sellers to either ship your items without insurance or assume that expense also. We always insure our items BUT, more importantly, pack them extremely well knowing that most are not replacable. Again, damage in transit, while rare in our experience, is due to the postal agency handling and not caused by Antiques & Uncommon Treasure. Please remember that when leaving DSR ratings. Thanks!
Our shipping days are Tuesday and Friday, paid items will be shipped on the first shipping day after payment is recieved (except when special circumstances exist). We prefer to use USPS whenever possible, and require all packages to be insured. If you prefer another method of shipment, please mention it. We charge only actual expense of shipment/insurance, except in the case of larger items which must have special wood crates built. Wood crate charge, when applicable, is a flat $35.00 in addition to actual postage & insurance charges.
Other Information: 8.75% sales tax applicable as of April 1st, 2009 for shipments & sales within the state of California, no exceptions. If you are within CA and are a dealer buying for resale, you must provide us your active resale certificate # and acknowledgment of intent to resell or we will have to collect sales tax. No exceptions.
