ETERNAL LOVE is an original masterpiece. The grandfather clock is graced by a young woman and her three infant sons. With flowing manes of hair and open expressive eyes we want to stay in their company and share in their hope. Their joy is apparent in each meticulously sculptured face. A young mother with her hopeful fertility tells time to stand still. Her cherub infants are all at play as time ticks away, unable to age their collective serenity or to corrupt their exquisite expressions. Westminster chimes mark the quarter hours and the hour with a wistful, romantic beauty as the young woman, clothed in a light garment revealing he seductive curves, offers up a garland of sweet, fragrant roses to the passing hours. In the center of the clock, holding the mother’s saintly gaze is a comical face; a feminine cupid and unassuming lad content on a pillow. He is playing a mandolin, a masculine romantic who might be the father of the three. She has but one foot on the ground. The other is almost in dance lifting her torso up towards the heavens where time has no place. A robust infant at his mother’s feet holds a dove on his precious finger. The viewer of the great clock is reminded of the peace promised by eternal love. His brothers sit atop the clock blessing their mother with garlands of flowers held in their dimpled hands. Her slender fingers hold flowers which are nature’s ephemeral reminders of the divine. For nothing lasts except for eternal love whose ripened fertility moves time in an endless dance.
Clock expert, Lebanese born, Michael Medawar says the mechanism which keeps time in the original grandfather clock is likely more than a hundred years old. He says the timepiece will last through many more generations if taken care of with regular servicing. Eternal Love, the grandfather clock is a mysterious piece. It was purchased at great expense by a newly wed woman of 24 years who was fleeing her precious, beloved Lebanon because of war. Young Claire begged her husband to buy her the clock. The shop keepers in Lissone, Italy, near Milan, at the Galleria Barocco, insisted that the clock was not for sale. They told Claire it was a piece carved by a master Italian carver through many long years, perhaps more than a decade or two. Claire would not leave the gallery without Eternal Love, the grandfather clock. Though she had no idea of her own destiny as she left for America with her young doctor husband, she was certain that this masterpiece would carry her safely to a new home and fertility of her own. And so, she sat for days in front of the clock until it was finally offered for purchase. Inscribed on the clock are the words, Amorica, Galleria Barocco, Lissone Italy. The store is no longer open and locals seem to know little about the family that sold the clock. They tell us that the clock was not made in Lissone, but perhaps in another place in the countryside. Claire knows that the sculptor’s love for the young mother and her three sons who grace the clock, was something divinely inspired. Claire is offering her masterpiece for sale. The value is priceless. The love of God, the love of peace, the love of unity.
This clock is in great condition for it's age it is able to come apart into six separate pieces making it easy to ship, move, and assemble.
