Legend 24TT

Selling my Epilog Legend 24TT 45W Laser Engraver.  We've used this machine for the past 5+ years without any difficulty.  We've primarily used it to engrave anodized aluminum, though the unit is only run a few times per year.  Occasionally we would cut some thin wood, or acrylic.  But the vast majority of it's use is anodized parts.  The unit is very clean inside.  We perform regular maintenance on the unit...it's been well taken care of

The unit was made in November of 2003.  It is a 45 watt unit.  I have the original manual, CD, and accessories that came with the unit.

Within the past couple years, we have replaced the following parts:
  • Front display and control board
  • X-axis stepper motor
  • Flex strip on I-beam
  • New focusing lens
There are a few condition issues that should be pointed out.  I think these are all fairly minor, but I want to be very open on the condition of the unit:
  • There are 2 power ports on the side of the unit.  One is for incoming power (to power the unit), and one is outgoing power (to power an exhaust fan if desired).  The incoming power receptacle has cracked and is loose.  It has no effect on function, and after the unit is plugged in, you'll never know it was cracked.  Or it could be fixed if you wanted.  The outgoing power plug does not work. I think it's a bad relay inside the unit.  The unit functions fine with these issues.
  • The unit needs to stay cool and can not sit idle while on for prolonged periods or the screen goes blank.  If that happens, the unit just needs to be switched off and allowed to cool down.  I think the issue is with the main control board in the rear of the unit getting too hot.  We just don't let the unit stay idle while on and it works fine.
  • We replaced the lens this past year and apparently the focal length is different from our old lens.  We made an adjustment to the manual focus device so the unit can be focused manually just fine.  But the Autofocus feature will not set the focus to the right distance.  This can be adjusted in the settings...but we never got around to it.  We engrave the same part over and over again, so it wasn't an issue for us.  There are instructions for making this adjustment in the manual.
  • The software driver for this unit is for Windows XP only.  We ran this unit using Windows 7 in XP mode.  I don't think it will work in Win 7 without using XP mode.  Or, you could just dedicate an older computer that uses Win XP to use with the unit.
  • There are 2 magnets on the lid that tell the unit when the lid is closed.  The laser itself will not fire if the unit detects that the lid is open (safety feature).  The magnets came loose and the easiest way to hold them in was tape.  That was supposed to be temporary until we could glue the magnets back into the lid.  That "temporary" fix has been ongoing for 5 years and we never think about it.  Works fine as is, or you could glue the magnets back in if you didn't like the look.
So, the unit has been going strong for a long time for us.  I just wanted to be very open and upfront on the condition.  The unit is ready to work fine as it is now.  I'll try to post a video of the unit engraving the red dog-tag in the pictures here in the listing.  That was done just before "retiring" (disconnecting) the unit on 9/27/13.

If you're looking to try out a laser engraver and don't want to spend the huge dollars upfront to try it out, this is the unit for you.  That's what we did, and now that business is really coming strong, we've upgraded to a new unit.  This unit served our needs well for a long time.  Also, if you ever did need to have any repairs done, or had any questions, Epilog Customer Service has been phenomenal to work with.  They know the units well, and walk you through any issues you have on the phone.  That's why our new unit is an Epilog as well.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.  The unit is not currently hooked up, but I can hook it up to demonstrate it to a local buyer.  The unit is kind of large, so it's a local pickup thing for now.  I do have the original packaging for the unit, and can try to pack it back up if you can arrange the shipping.  But it's going to be a pain to do that and I'd rather not unless you're serious about it.

EDIT: Just want to point out that the unit is located in Eliot, Maine.  It lists this at the top of the listing, but I wanted to clearly point out the location.  Eliot is about 1 hour north of Boston, and 1 hour south of Portland.  It's next to Portsmouth, NH.

EDIT: Here is a link to the Epilog website that lists all the specs for this unit.
