Up for bidding is an encased 3¢ postage stamp, used in the 1862-63 Civil War era, advertising "Ayers Cathartic Pills".
Description: The token is made from brass, mica and a stamp, and measures about 24mm in diameter. It is the long arrows variety.
J. Gault patented his "New Metallic Currency" in August 1862, during the coin shortage in the midst of the Civil War. About a year later, use had declined, and by the end of the war, Gault's encased stamps were no longer used as currency in any significant number.
Condition: Good condition. Please examine the photographs for further details and qualities.
