Excellent Generator I looked at a lot of types and brands over the last year. The DuroMax MX4500E 4500 Watt 7 HP Generator was easy to put together open box put wheel kit on hanles put oil and gas in and turn the key . it started within 15 seconds. It is hooked into a transfer switch. a six breaker setup . it handles 2 refridgerators standard size,Gas Furnace with elec blower [110 power],all lights 42" 32" 27" falt screen tv, Dvr, dvd player,And all lights and tools in my 12x20 work shop. all of this and power to spare. ps. this generator come with everything you need to get it up and running. exp. power cord I would buy another one if needed
Verified purchase: No
This is my back-up home generator, there are some who might say it is a bit small, but am able to run my entire first floor ( hall lights, TV, DVD, WELL PUMP, kitchen lights and small appliances, and 2 refrigerator/freezers.) I was able to run my sump-pump, but had to shut off my well pump to do so. I backfeed my main panel from my garage, so there is no need for a transfer switch, just have to make sure you shut the main off, as not to put voltage on the transmission lines. This little generator performed very well, out of the box, I went over the entire thiing, I checked ALL of the nuts and bolts for tightness, checked all the wiring terminations, all was great. The frame was bent and the air cleaner housing damaged. I got right on the phone and called customer service. They were great and they spoke english. I received my new air cleaner in about a week. I bent the frame back into place. I filled the unit with oil and gas, choked it and 2 cranks later it fired right up. I checked the voltages the generator was putting out and they were right on (when powering a home with a generator you really SHOULD use a surge protector, just to protect sensative electronics from surges from the generator)This generator is also pretty quiet, in regards to generators. Now that I have experianced this brand first hand I will most likely upgrade in a couple of years to there 10000w generator. I am very happy with my purchase, price , performance, and product. Remember when sizing a generator, factor in things such as lighting, CFL bulbs use much less wattage than incandescent, add all of your bulb wattages up that you want to use during a power outage, small appliances, a good average would be 750-1500 watts per small appliance(always figure high)find the AMPS on your major appliances and factor them in, use online electrical wattage calculators or OHMS Law to help you size your generator. And just use common sense, i.e. if your well pump is running(if the water is running the pump is running)wait for it to stop before using the toaster, if you need a sump pump, dont use items that require alot of amperage. As far as lights you are pretty safe, especially if you are using CFL's or LED's, incandescent bulbs use about .8 amps per 100watts. I hope this helps. Oh and FYI, I am an electrician by trade.Read full review
Easy to assemble and once the wheels are on, it is very easy to move around. I have not yet had to use it for a power backup, however, I have started the engine using the key. The manual calls for no choke at all. However, the engine would not start until I gave it a little choke and then it kicked right over and I turned off the choke. I am connecting the generator to a power transfer, which allows me to run six of my circuit breakers. We have rolling brown outs in Texas when it gets really hot or really cold. I want to be prepared...
This generator lives up to everything that was advertised. I use it with my travel trailer and it will run most of the items I have in it except two high wattage items at the same time. I can run the AC with most of the lights and pumps etc., or I can run the microwave and the other items. But, I cannot run the AC and the microwave at the same time. I am happy with the generator's performance. It is easy to start and easy on fuel.
The Generator is A good buy. The only thing is it runs wide open all the time. The Tech said is was designed to run that way. The volt meter shows that it is putting out 165 volts all the time. The tech said he would send a new meter. Still waiting.(That was a month ago.} All-in all,its a great generator for the price. Most generators this size and electric start, cost Twice as much.I do plan on buying a larger one later from them later this year. They ship VERY FAST. We had a ICE storm that same weekend it arrived. PERFECT timing.
