Early Hardy Perfect 4.25" Wide Drum Salmon Fly Reel - Spares, Repair, Display  

This is an iconic Hardy Salmon Fly Reel dating back to circa 1920.

It is a 4.25" wide drum Hardy Perfect which unfortunately has had a hard life. The front case of the reel ( that part showing the impressed Hardy name) has been damaged and repaired. I suspect that the previous owner weas not aware that you have to unscrew the drum and having removed the locking screw tried to force the drum out. Despite this repair, the reel works, including the brake mechanism.

Measurements: The outer rim of the reel is 4.25" across, the inner rim is 3.5" and the drum is 2. 5/16th deep.

It is marked around the centre:

'HARDY BROS. ALNWCK'

'PATENT PERFECT REEL'

On the inner drum is the no.'628640' and what looks like an '8'

As described above, the front case has been damaged and repaired. It remains, however, an attractive reel which is almost 100 years old. If someone has a front case to replace the reaired one then it becomes a very valuable reel. Otherwise it could be used as spares or simply displayed.
