Captain E.J. Smith master of the Titanic - his genuine and original signature in 1895 when master of The Majestic.

This is the genuine original item - not any type of copy or photograph

I am selling this on behalf of a friend - it was found in the effects of his late uncle and he has asked me to sell it for him. I do not have any history of selling anything connected to ships or the Titanic - this is a genuine one off sale of an original item.

The signature has been authenticated as genuine in ink and not a rubber stamp as was sometimes used by other masters - if you are knowledgable about these matters you will know at once it's authenticity.

This is a fantastic item to acquire on the eve of 2012 and there will never be an opportunity again to own an original item such as this!

The original item is a :-

 Seaman's Certificate of Discharge signed on 21st November 1895 by the then master of the SS Majestic who was EJ Smith. 

CONDITION

  • Generally good for a paper item from 1895 - it would display very well framed up behind glass.
  • There is a fold to the left of the certificate about 1 inch from the edge - this flattens out easily behind glass - see photo
  • The bottom edge on the right side is folding under and browning with age - see photo
  • EJ Smith's signature is very clear - see photo
  • There a couple of small holes toward the left edge in the middle  - the largest of which has the paper folded down and when framed behind glass will fill the hole and clearly show the date 30 Oct 1895. - see photo
