DORSTENIA BARNIMIANA
Dorstenia barnimiana is a tuberous geophyte from east When the seeds are ripe the fruit “explodes” and throws the seeds out several feet. You are bidding on a plant like the one shown here growing in a 3-1/2 inch pot. The tuber will be 5/8 to 3/4 inch in diameter. The plant will be in leaf and may or may not have a flower stalk depending on what I have in stock when you buy. More leaves and flowers are probable later in the summer. Shipping will be “in the pot” by US Postal Service Priority Mail. I will ship the plant the way you see it here with the tuber exposed. Since roots will form on the sides and even top of the tuber I suggest adding a loose soil topping or mulch of small rocks over the tuber when you receive the plant. (I exposed the tuber for the photo and the mulch tends to fall off in shipping so I will leave it for the winner to replace.) I offer combined shipping discounts: The highest priced shipping item is full cost as listed or calculated on the auction page. Other plants shipped in the same box are $2 each for shipping ($3 to the west coast). I will hold items for combining up to 10 days. Sorry, I can only ship to addresses in the lower 48 states and Culture: As you would expect with a geophyte, the plants have a clear dormant period in habitat that has to be respected in cultivation. These will go dormant in the late fall and thru the winter when little or no water is needed. (They may also go dormant in the growing season if you let them get too dry.) If the tuber shrivels too much in the winter I will sometimes give them a little water by setting the pot in a shallow container of water and letting the dirt in the bottom third to half of the pot get wet. I never water from the top in the winter, that can encourage rot. Please email if you have any questions. |
