I rank 3 songs from the 1940's as the major historic classics of afro cuban jazz. Mario Bauza is at the heart of them all with Chano Ponzo on percussion. Mario as musical director for his brother-in-law Machito's Orchestra helped create the music on the CD under review above by Dizzy Gilespie i.e. I also love this 1975 classic, "Afro-Cuban Jazz Moods" performed by Dizzy Gilespie and Machito's Orchestra. The classics from the 1940's are: 1. "Tanga" as (Re)recorded in 1975 by Mario Bauza. 2. Dizzie Gilespie's "The Manteca Suite" and 3. Dizzie Gilespie's "A Night in Tunisia". Afro Cuban Jazz Moods has a classic but modern sound. Great CD Phil Chapman
