I have used Dimarzio pickups since the '70s. They were great from the start. I have had several 36th Anniversary PAFs on various guitars and am pleased with the sound. They sound classic, have plenty of attack and yet have smooth sustain. I have a cream one on my Yamaha SL650, an excellent 1979 Les Paul style guitar, in neck position with a Super Distortion at the bridge position. The black one I just bought replaces the neck position pickup on my 1979 Yamaha SA2000S Superaxe, a 335 style guitar. It is matched with a custom wound DImarzio in the bridge position and the sound is very well balanced. These pickups do sound classic. With the amp I built, a UNITY 140, it's so easy to emulate any classic sound, from soft rock, Chicago blues style, classic rock such as Led Zep, Sabbath etc through to later sounds such as AC/DC, Joe Walsh, on to later metal sounds. Highly recommended, without reservation!Read full review

With everyone out there who winds pickups, they all say theirs stands out. I have Dimarzio 36th anniversary sets in both of my Les Pauls and they sound different in both. They compliment the sound I’m after.

I used this as my neck pickup and a Dimarzio Super Distortion for my bridge pickup and WOW. It sounds amazing! It's like having sex with my ears. Gives my guitar a real Kurt Cobain sound!
