I was specifically looking for an older laptop with an original copy of Windows XP that still runs well, is virus free, and has a large and relatively high quality display. I got exactly that, and at a good price. Don't expect anything in terms of battery life or portability on these old machines, that's not really what they were designed to do. Think of it as a more portable desktop computer. This machine runs fast and is exactly as described.

Not much on doing reviews, but thought should anyone be interested in this particular model which ranges from the Dell Inspiron 1501 (6000 in disguise) to the Dell Inspiron 6400. These laptops are in my opinion a good buy for the money as when I purchased the Dell Inspiron 1501 for my wife in 2007 at $742.00 shipped to my residence these are now going for $90.00 to $120.00 USD shipped in the lower 48. Be advised the battery in these laptops are at their lifespan end and need to be replaced asap, other then that for going online to check your e-mail or Facebook and casual online web interface gaming you can't beat the price on these laptops. I could go into further detail, but if you are reading this then I'm sure you already know some about this laptop via the web aka Google.
What I like most about this laptop is how well was designed with style and efficiency in mind. For the time it was built was preferred by educated customer. The only thing to regret today, is the small memory in the graphics(32 MB), even with the upgrade (64MB), that affects viewing preferences in the High Definition bracket. I'm looking forward for the next upgrade in this product line: the Dell Inspiron 6400; that model will provide a fix for this deficiencies. I will recommend this product to every one who likes simple stuff, that is functional and very practical, or as a present for non demanding user. I purchased this model without a hard drive, but guess what: it works perfect with a Linux Distro installed in a bootable flash drive, but it will be better if you upgrade ram memory, processor and graphics (128Mb) to the next notch. Thanks for reading.Read full review
Dell Inspiron 6000 was not well packed but minor damage to plastic parts. Computer was fine.

One of the best computers Dell ever produced. It is easy to work on, seldem breaks and when it does it can be fixed. There is one flaw--the battery--most batteries are either dead or fixing to die. On the other hand the Dell 8600 battery seldom bombs out and works on and on like the Enegizer battery drum beater.
