I bought this book because I wanted to have a better understanding of ADHD. As a child I had trouble with reading comprehension and organization and still do as an adult. Now I see these same qualities in my son. I was however, an honors student so it never occured to me that there was a problem. I just thought I was an intelligent ding-a-ling! This book helped me realize what has been going on all these years! It presents such a positive outlook on ADHD through examples of some the most successful, well-recognized people such as Bill Gates. Who Knew? It has helped me realize that this is not a bad thing that should be hidden away and not talked about. Adults and kids with ADHD are still high functioning and very intelligent and usually have great energy with high levels of creativity. They take risks, go with their gut, it's a good thing. They are not easily able to pretend to be someone else, they are authentic! Sometimes they might be too honest but in the long run I think that's a good thing. This book has helped me to better deal with the Preschool students I teach because I understand them so much more. We don't have an attention deficit, it is an attention difference. As an individual with this problem, I just have to do a few special things to allow me to pay attention better. I have to sit up toward the front at a class or in church. Otherwise I will focus on all kinds of other things! If you are wondering if you have this or if you are a parent who is worried about a diagnosis on your own child, please read this book! It will explain the great things and help you fuction better. I think teachers should be required to read this book too so that they might understand how to treat their ADHD students better! READ it, it is wonderful!Read full review
My son was diagnosed in first grade with ADD (he's now in sixth grade). He does not have hyperactivity, only focus problems. Accepting the ADD diagnosis can be a tough pill to swallow for a parent, and this book is EXCEPTIONAL at explaining the disorder and how it affects all different age groups. It talks about what to expect, treatment options available including therapies, homeopathic, and medicinal, and teachs you methods to deal with the disorder. I've rented the book from my local library twice and finally decided to purchase it because I refer back to it so much. This is definitely worth the investment. In fact, it may be some of the best money you spend. This same author wrote Driven to Distraction which is an earlier book. While it is still good, I feel Delivered From Distraction is much better. Definitely buy with confidence!Read full review
Down-to-earth info on ADD and ADHD, with very accurate descriptions of behaviors, personalities, etc. We have begun implementing some of the suggestions, with success. Our 18-year-old grandson feels more confident in himself and is more aware of what his needs are and how to handle life. He is also more productive.

As a non-adhd spouse and father this was informational and helpful to me as I continue to try to understand the issues and learn about strategies that COULD be employed. By those with adhd. If they will acknowledge and own it. If they will read it. I am hopeful.

This is a great book for those like myself who never fit in, always daydreaming, in our own little world. I saw myself in so many of the illustrations. Since I haven't finished the book I can't say whether it answers my dilemmas, but it gives hope and encouragement with humor. I know I need to get a therapist for further help, and this book has encouraged me to do this.
