While Cheryl and Maksim are both talented dancers, but only Maks makes a good workout video host. The choreography is not too hard for a novice, and the focus is more on technique, which a more trained dancer could appreciate. There is a good build of increasingly difficult steps, which shouldn't leave anyone in the dust. It is a nice introduction to different styles of latin dance, and you are able to choose which dances you would like to try separately. Cheryl is incredibly stiff and clearly uncomfortable in this setting, which is actually pretty funny. She claims that dancing is fun, while the backup dancers look bored out of their minds - no smiles to be found. At another point, she awkwardly walks around the studio to show you how the backup dancers are doing the very basic step she has just taught, but she knows none of their names and it comes across as killing time. The backup dancers are lackluster, anyways, so I wouldn't recommend looking to them as a guide. Maksim is comfortable and fun to watch. He's funny and charismatic, and does well with his segments. This isn't really an excercise DVD, it's a dance tutorial, and if you keep that in mind, it is a good purchase for someone wanting to learn the basic steps you see on "Dancing with the Stars."Read full review
I also prefer the first one but this one does have a nice toning section - but no cool down section. The dance sections are easy to follow but still interesting for someone with more experiences. Worth buying for the sections with Max. Cheryl's sort of a dry instructor and her cueing is poor; eg. she'll say start on this leg and by the time you look she's done pointing, instead of saying start on right or left as she should. Overall a fun video. Again, I recommend the first one over this one.
This is the absolute best DVD (and I have several) from the Dancing with the Stars group and other folks who produce dancing exercise videos -- it will work you and it's fun. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants a cardio work out. I bought this to use at home in additon to taking Yoga/Pilates or Zumba classes and it does what I wanted -- tones, get the heart rate up & makes me sweat while having fun. An excellent product for home or group use.
I LOVE Dancing w/ the Stars and thought it would be fun to exercise with Max & Cheryl. The routines are great some of the steps are simple and some are a little complex. The great thing about the routines you can feel you are using all of your muscles. I liked learning some new steps to try out on the dance floor.
Absolutely love it! There's nothing like getting in shape and having fun while doing so. Dancing has never been my forte but breaking it down into small routines that you can do at home makes things so much easier! Of course you will break a sweat but it's fun! The Dancing with the Stars workout videos are fantastic! If you want to have fun while working out then get these!!!
