Denver & Rio Grande Western K-37 2-8-2  Mikado West Side Models Nakamura BRASS HOn3 unpainted.  A highly desirable and well detailed model of this Japanese Nakamura Seimitsu crafted Mikado open frame motor powered narrow gauge Mike.    These Mikado engines began their lives as Baldwin built 183,920 lbs standard gauge Consolidation delivered to the Denver & Rio Grande in 1902 (Class 190).  With the Denver & Rio Grande Western merger of 1924, the engine Class 190  was reclassified as a C-41 (maintaining its 2-8-0 wheel arrangement) and  assigned a new roster numbers.  During 1930’s, a total of ten of these engines were converted from a standard gauge 2-8-0 to a narrow gauge Mikado 2-8-2 .  The Rio Grande 492 was delivered from Baldwin with builder plate number # 20749 during  1908.  The engines were upgraded and the result was the K-37 class. The resultant engines were equipped with 44 inch drivers and weighed 187,250 lbs.  The engines could develop a tractive effort of 37,100 lbs.  These Mikes were regularly seen in places such as Sargent, Cumbres, Coxo,  Mears Junction and Villa Grove, Colorado.    The K-37 class locomotive hauled both passenger and freight consists.  Some K-37’s lasted till the end of the steam era even making occasional fan trips well into the 1960’s and was donated to the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad  during 1981. At least one K-37 (#497) railroad operates steam engines to this day. Roster number 492 was transferred to the  Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad (C&TS) during 1970.  Wheel plating is intact, as the model appears to have been for display.  The model comes with both boiler weight, hardware kit, and tender weight ready to install.    Altogether a superb model, the engine comes with a original box and full foam.   Please allow $11  for insured  domestic shipping and handling.  Foreign bidders please email for a shipping quote.
