The grill plates are easy to clean, however I do not recomend using dishwasher. Plates come out with a powder like residue. It could be an incompatability with dish soap and metal. It would be better if it could be stowed vertically.

I am a little disappointed about the size of the press. If you have a family do not get this press. It will only fit 1 large 1/2 slice of french bread or two medium size panini. It is compact and great for an apartment or condo. For the function of it....it works great and have had no problems with it.
