For Vehicle Type: Airplane
This Cox TD .010 is in its original jewel case plus the cardboard sleeve that was used by the factory when shipping the engines out. As a result, the jewel case is near perfect. The inside card stock support has some minor oil stains on it. The engine looks very good.

The TD .010 was advertised as the "Smallest true production engine" which it was in 1961. It is described as a "Mini of the .049/red front end/red plastic tank or red plastic rear cover and mount less tank (Atwood design)". Those quotes are taken from "Anderson's Blue Book" of model engines from 1911 to 1965.

I was fortunate to attend the AMA National model contest at Los Alamitos Naval Air Station in California in 1961. Contestants were invited on a tour of the Cox factory. We saw all the production operations. At the end of the tour, we got to meet Bill Atwood, their noted engine designer who began in the 1930s. Bill brought out a TD .010 which no one had heard of at the time. We were quite impressed! One of the guys with us asked if he could buy that engine and how much it cost. Bill said that one was $10,000 but if we'd wait a few weeks, they could be found in hobby shops for quite a bit less.

Some time after that, I bought this engine new. I ran it in a free flight gas scale model, putting about 15 minutes on it. We used to joke about the .010 having just 2 speeds, not running - and 27.,000 rpm, which just wasn't practical for that scale model.
