One of the skills my sixth grade students HATE practicing is prediction. I think they like the idea in theory, but actually having to write predictions seems like drudgery to them. In order to remedy this, I bought this Scholastic teacher reference book hoping to perk my reading classes up a bit. The book has worked wonders! In the book, stories stop at a certain "cliffhanger" point, at which students are required to stop and answer questions and make a few predictions. Once they've answered the questions, they can then go on to read (or listen to) the rest of the story. The book is great for reinforcing active reading skills, and I think it's probably best for grades 4-7.
